Region Guide

Region coding is a form digital rights management (DRM) technique used by publishers to control aspects of a video game, including content, release dates and price. We carry a mix of imported stock it’s important to have a clear understanding on how region coding and region locking works with Video Games, as it will prevent you from purchasing a title that you cannot play/use with your hardware.

Our listings will advise as to the region of your game, however there are also some quick and easy ways to determine the region of your game:

  • On the spine of your game - some games may state either PAL, NTSC or NTSC-J near the bottom of the spine

  • The rating advice - this is usually printed on the front of the game, in the bottom left corner. Each region has their unique consumer advice sticker:

  • Locating the Region Code symbol on the back of the game cover. The region symbols look similar to this:

For the most part, an imported game will only have minor differences to the box art and localisation languages (Don’t worry, everything we stock is guaranteed to play in English, unless otherwise stated!)

However DLC requirements may change depending on your gaming platform and the region of the disk. See below on how it may affect you and the platform you are playing on:

For Xbox 360 & Xbox One owners

Xbox One: All game disks are Region Free and will work on any console. DLC is not region locked either, so you can happily buy DLC from the Australian Xbox Marketplace and have it work with your imported game

Xbox 360: Some disks are region locked, however we do not import or stock these at Dungeon Crawl. DLC is not region locked either, so you can happily buy DLC from the Australian Xbox Marketplace and have it work with your imported game.

For Nintendo Wii, Wii U and 3DS owners

Nintendo region locks all games and DLC meaning the region of your game MUST match the region of your console. Australian Nintendo consoles are all PAL format. At Dungeon Crawl we only stock PAL Nintendo titles, in order to guarantee compatibility. Games from Australia, New Zealand, Europe and the UK will all work on an Australian Nintendo console.

DLC purchased from the Australian store will also work with any PAL Nintendo title. However, you may not be able to redeem UK DLC codes on the Australian Nintendo eShop.

For PC Owners

Almost all installation disks are region free, so you can install the game files on your Australian PC without any issues. However, some Product Codes, especially from Asia and Eastern Europe, may be Region Locked. At Dungeon Crawl, we avoid these potentially region locked titles, so you don’t have to worry!

For PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita owners

PlayStation 3

Sony does not region lock the game disks - these can be played on any console regardless of region. However Sony does region lock DLC content and DLC codes. This means you cannot buy or activate DLC content from a different region PSN store - it must be done from a PSN account that matches the region of your disk.  Making a region specific PSN account is quite easy:

(Please note: You MUST create the new PSN account using an email address that has not been previously registered to another PSN account)

Step 1: Log out of your PSN Online account and your PS3 User Account

Step 2: Create a new User Account on your PS3 console. Once created, log in to the new account

Step 3: Create a new PSN account for the new User account created in Step 2. Follow the onscreen instructions to begin creating the new PSN account. When it asks you for your Country or Address, use the following information:

3183 Wilshire Blvd Los Angeles, CA 90010. Country: USA

For Region 3 NTSC-J games, you can use the following address:

18 Stafford Rd Kowloon Tong, Kowloon Hong Kong. Country: Hong Kong

Step 4: Complete the account creation process and you’re done! Just log in to this US PSN account when you intend to buy or redeem any DLC for your purchases. Installed DLC is shared across accounts on your PS3 console, so you can swap back to your normal PSN account to play the game and the content! (Great if you are a stickler for Trophies like us)

For PlayStation 4 owners:

Sony does not region lock the game disks - these can be played on any console regardless of region. However Sony does region lock DLC content and DLC codes. This means you cannot buy or activate DLC content from a different region PSN store - it must be done from a PSN account that matches the region of your disk.  Making a region specific PSN account is quite easy:
